TEARCARE®

In New York City

Tearcare® is a quick non invasive FDA approved dry eye treatment aimed at alleviating symptoms of dry eyes derived from Meibomian gland dysfunction. The procedure uses heat generated from the tearcare system to heat up any oil blockages within the meibomian glands to make gland expressions more efficient allowing for the tear film to receive the proper oil flow it needs to create a stable ocular surface alleviating dry eye symptoms in the process.

TEARCARE® FAQS

Benefits of Tearcare®

  • Improved vision due to a stable ocular surface
  • Quick minimally invasive procedure that’s completely painless
  • No associated downtime
  • Provides immediate relief for dry eye symptoms.

Who is a Candidate for Tearcare®?

People suffering from chronic blepharitis and dry eye syndrome would greatly benefit from the the tearcare® system as it helps free up any trapped lipid within the meibomian glands helping restabilize the ocular surface. People suffering from long term styes and more specifically chalazions would also greatly benefit from this procedure as the heated compress the tearcare® system provides will help break up oil obstructions that are causing the typical red bump associated with chalazions.

How Tearcare® is Performed

Tearcare® is a non invasive in office procedure that takes less than thirty minutes. The first part of the procedure will have someone part of your eye care team apply the tearcare smart lids on the upper and lower eyelids on both eyes. Afterwards you will sit back and relax for 15 minutes as the tearcare system applies a consistent 42°C of heat to your Meibomian glands. Once the 15 minutes are over the smart lids will be removed and numbing eye drops will be given so your eyecare provider can express the glands and relieving them of any oil obstructions.

Recovery & Aftercare®

After the procedure expect to experience a significant relief from the typical dry eye disease of blurry vision, watery eyes, and redness as the corneal surface is under the protection of a stable tearfilm providing the cornea with the nutrients it needs. If the treatment is done to get rid of a stye expect any inflammation or bumps to gradually decrease in size overtime until its completely gone.

Should I still continue to do a warm compress at home after tearcare®

If you suffer from evaporative dry eye disease it’s recommended for you to continue doing a warm compress at home to help prevent the built up of lipid within the meibomian gland and delaying the possible onset of dry eye symptoms.

How often should tearcare® be done

Those suffering from chronic blepharitis and meibomian gland dysfunction are recommended to do tearcare every 6-12 months as long term obstruction of the Meibomian glands leads to further gland atrophy and worsening of dry eye symptoms. the atrophy of the glands are difficult to reverse and can so far only be done through intense pulsed light therapy.

Estimated downtime.

There is no downtime associated with tearcare as its a noninvasive in office procedure and you can return to normal daily activities after the procedure is over with no limitations.
